When the leaves start to change colors and the air gets brisk, I am instantly in awe of the romantic nature of this season. It’s hard to get away from images of lovers walking arm and arm or enjoying those last few warm days at the park on a picnic blanket. Before Halloween even hits, my mind is already on the holidays and snuggling up next to your loved one with cocoa in hand. All of these lovey-dovey ideals might seem trite to some, but I am a total sucker for them. With several friends newly engaged, this is of course, all the more relevant and its got me thinking about the perfect honeymoon in paradise.

After flipping through half a dozen bridal guides and wedding magazines, my latest desktop adventure is taking me to the super-romantic honeymoon capital of Mexico. From what the experts tell me, Mexico is one of the most popular destinations for an amorous pair’s first vacation as a married couple. If it was going to be my special day and I was making the 1,000 decisions necessary to ensure a fete worthy of a Queen, the honeymoon would surely be at the top of my list of priorities. With the economics of the wedding industry in flux due to the economy, many brides and grooms are cutting costs but still don’t want to sacrifice a traditional honeymoon. If that sounds like you, then you’re in luck because Mexico is an excellent destination to consider. Air fare remains competitive and many hotels are offering excellent specials. Some properties also offer romance packages specifically for honeymooners, while others offer a complimentary bottle of wine or an exotic fruit basket.

The resident experts tell me that choosing Mexico for your honeymoon means brilliant sunsets and relaxing spas, but it also can mean exciting activities and adventure. You can experience it all, from the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum or Coba to the scenic beauty of Acapulco or the bustling nightlife of Cancun to the peaceful oasis of Cozumel. With ancient Aztec pyramids, authentic foods, fantastic shopping, stunning white sand beaches and golf resorts in abundance, Mexico might just be the perfect spot for you. If the spirit of travel is part of what makes you a unique couple, there is of course, always the option for a destination wedding. Mindy Weiss, Celebrity Wedding Planner, says in a recent issue of Bridal Guide, that Cabo San Lucas “is a great place to tie the knot.” Whether you’re planning an elaborate ceremony for 200 guests or a quiet honeymoon just for the two of you, this romantic paradise is sure to please. All I ask is that you send me an invitation.
